BIOGRAPHY
Razvan Anghelache is a visual and performance artist, currently residing and working in Moncofa, Valencia, Spain. He was born in Bucharest, Romania and received his BA in Cinematography and Media from The National University of Arts in Bucharest. He worked in the gaming industry from 2006 to 2010, when he took the leap into freelance illustration and motion design.
In 2015, he moved to Sweden to further his education, earning a Master of Fine Arts at Umeå University. That same year, Razvan created Hazeart Studios, specializing in visual content creation, both for brands and individual entrepreneurs. He participated in two Erasmus+ mobility programs, one of which was in Italy. He coordinated the project called “Map my Art'' in its initiation and planning stages, at The Siena Art Institute and Santa Chiara FabLab.
Razvan has presented his work in various international exhibitions, including at the first edition of Bucharest Art Week (2014), Daegu Photo biennale (2016) and Robot Love (Eindhoven, 2018).
Between 2018 and 2021, Razvan worked remotely with The New Centre for Research & Practice, acquiring organizational knowledge in the online education field. During this period, Razvan traveled and lived between Romania, Germany, Sweden and finally Spain, where he decided to settle.
ABOUT THE ART
My works reflect the poetics of distorted perception, emotions, and altered states of consciousness. I’m interested in the human psyche and how individuals and collectives are affected by fears, trauma, tension, and anxiety. While these threads connect my projects, other themes are layered into my body of work, commenting on memory, desire, conflict, and power structures.
I find inspiration in popular culture, street art, cityscapes under construction, stories from the places which I have traveled and lived, myths, as well as dreams and exploration of my own subconsciousness.
Mindful drawing helps me get into a flow state which has an important role in my creative process. In addition to drawing, I use a variety of media: sculptural installation, video, sound, painting, and performance.
In my drawings and paintings I like to create abstract worlds populated by outlandish characters. I use scale and affect in site-specific temporary installations for indoor and outdoor locations, to create immersive experiences for the viewers. Through my performances, I explore how value systems, significance, and constructs are altered when they are situated in an explicitly absurd situation.
